Another good week at RMS. We walked to school on Wednesday, inoculated against the flu on Thursday morning, and ended with our Open House that night. Thank you to everyone who attended.
This week Catherine Patch shared a story about one of our teachers that I felt was a great insight into the kind of people we have working at RMS. As many of you know, we offer skateboarding as a part of the PE curriculum. This “non-traditional” sport allows all students to start at the same level, progress at their individual level, and enjoy movement no matter their previous experience. We did notice, however, that some students struggled with the balance necessary to fully enjoy rolling around outside. Enter Missie Rodriguez.
Using her own time and materials, Missie created a fully functional “seat-board” that allows all students to participate and steer their own boards. This kind of innovation and dedication to putting students first is what makes RMS the great place it is. Thank you to Missie, the PE department, and all of our teachers.
We will have many homework free days upcoming (Yom Kippur and Indigenous Peoples Day). Feel free to use the homework free time to explore the outdoors, discuss current events, or share a favorite book/movie/music. So much of our learning takes place outside of the “regular” school framework.
Enjoy the weekend, and the 4 day weeks that will follow.
