Dear RMS Community:
At RMS we have a long tradition of finding ways to take care of each other. This year we have a new opportunity to help each other as we have an enrolled student who has a severe pumpkin allergy. For the safety of this student, please do not send pumpkins or foods prepared with pumpkins to school. Please also help us to minimize the social difficulty that this allergy could bring by stressing the many ways we can look out for each other in our community. For our traditional fall celebrations we are encouraging the use of gourds or squash (or perhaps honeydew melons). Thank you.
Next week we will work together for our health and the health of the planet by offering the opportunity to take part in the walk/bike to school day on Wednesday. With this as a backdrop it seems a good time to remind riders and walkers to follow all traffic rules and courtesies as a way to keep everyone safe. The new E bikes are extremely fast and quiet, and often walkers do not hear them coming. When riding, especially when close to the Ray school, please be aware of walkers and other bikers. Helmets are strongly suggested and please remember to be extra careful in the mornings, as it continues to get darker and darker.
One of the ways to take care of each other we have recently rediscovered is to gather together for events and food. Last week we gathered to eat gumbo and raise nearly $5,000 for hurricane relief. This week many families gathered at a local skatepark to celebrate the end of the skateboard unit in PE. Our SAGE students sold snacks, dinner, and pins (some pins still available for $1 if you would like to support SAGE) to raise money for future projects, and families, students, and teachers enjoyed themselves immensely despite the rain. Thank you Ms. Patch for taking the lead on this and creating another opportunity to build our community.
As we continue to search out ways to celebrate and build our community safely we would like everyone to enjoy a beautiful fall weekend. As always, please be safe, stay well, and take care of each other.
