Frances C. Richmond Middle School

Dear RMS Community:
Last night we were privileged to attend a meeting of 7th-grade parents at the Marion Cross School. In the first of what we hope can be regular parent meetings, administrators sat down to discuss any and all concerns brought forth by parents. Thank you to Tracey Hayes for inviting me, Anissa, Ms. Powers, and Mr. Lacrosse, and thank you to everyone who came out in the cold. Highlights of the discussion included:
***Format - The format of the Friday Focus is reliant on PowerSchool (which is why pictures seem to be in odd places). We are trying a Google Docs version, available here. (Click “view” and “document outline” for an outline of the whole focus)
***Electives - Students signed up for Q3 electives this week. Please discuss your student's choices with them and feel free to contact any of us with any questions.
***PTO - Stay tuned for updates on the efforts to form and organize a PTO for RMS. In the meantime, please check out Circle Up! It is a place to meet other parents and to discuss issues of interest to all of us in the community. Meeting Thursday, January 23rd, 6:00 pm in RMS room 713.
As always we welcome any and all feedback about the school. Please come by to visit at any time. Be sure to check-in at the front desk (times dictate that all visitors to the building check-in and have a badge). We would love to see you.
Two fun pictures this week. The 7th grade is planning a trip to Mars - field trip permission slips will be sent home soon. I love that science, and all classes at RMS, are attached to real-world problems and solutions. Come by and see the projects our students have created.
Earlier this week I noticed Frances C. Richmond smiling because of all the skis stacked in the front office in anticipation of afternoon practice. It is a wonderful place that accepts students into the school with all that they bring with them. Our students do so much, with such enthusiasm and joy, that they continue to teach me to live each day with smiles and energy. It has been a great start to 2020. Thank you.
We will need a great deal of energy throughout the month of January as we finish Quarter 2 and start Quarter 3. In the next two weeks alone we will have a camp fair, a parent book club, a theatre showcase, a civil rights assembly, a visit from both the elective and guidance departments at the High School while our 8th-grade band will go to the High School to play with the High School band as a “sneak peek” into next year. Whew. Please see below for specific dates.
Have a wonderful weekend.
