Message from Administration

Dear RMS Community:

It appears that the weather has finally turned - reminding us of why New Englanders are considered to be pretty tough.  The cold and the dark of this time of year, combined with possible anxiety surrounding the upcoming holiday season, can make finding inspiration and smiles a challenge.  Luckily we work at RMS!  Spurred on by our student council and 8th grade leadership class, this week saw us embark on an ambitious plan of community service.  Yesterday nearly 40 students met outside RMS for the first annual run for Veterans.  Running for almost 4 hours, students ran between 6 and 18 miles (!) to raise money to aid local homeless veterans.  As the pledged money is coming in we hope to be able to donate over $2,000 to help win our community.

Today we gathered as grade levels to talk about Veterans Day and the importance of service.  At every assembly we were impressed both with the desire of our students to serve causes bigger than themselves and with the amount of service already undertaken by our community as a whole.

Next week we will kick off the annual food drive for the Haven.  This year the student council has offered a new incentive for the school as a whole.  If the school can gather more than 650 non perishable food items (link to most needed items here), Mr. Boyle will wear a turkey suit during the day on November 23rd.  I think we are all glad this novel motivation does not involve singing or dancing.

As we move into the traditional holiday season we will continue to mindful of the stresses seemingly inherent to this time of year, and work to mitigate anxiety in ourselves and our students.  We want to thank our community again for continuing to hold to our protocols that have kept us safe, despite the ever increasing numbers of infections in our area.  Good luck to all those who are taking part in the vaccination clinic this weekend, we wish everyone a safe and reaction free  day.  As always, please reach out with any questions or concerns.

Please be well, stay safe, and take care of each other.

Warmly,

Tim Boyle
Principal

Virtual Conference Available
In concert with Outright VT, SAGE is offering the opportunity for our students to participate in the annual Gender & Sexuality Alliance (GSA), virtually connecting students from all over Vermont.  “The conference is a great opportunity to network, build community, develop important leadership skills, and converse with one another on what it takes to make your GSA vibrant, inclusive, and effective.”  RMS students will work with their teachers to assure all classroom obligations are met.  We are excited to have our SAGE group be able to network and collaborate with other students.

Student Council Update
Thanks to all who participated in our Veteran's Day Run/Walk.  We had nearly 40f students who ran well over 6-15 miles.  We will be able to make a generous donation to several groups that support Veterans activities.
Next week will be our annual Haven Food Drive.  There will be a school wide goal and a fun incentive if the school meets the target.  Items can begin coming in on Monday.

The RMS PTO has a new home on Facebook, and we hope you'll join us! We've transitioned from our FB group to a new FB page, as the "page" format has better alignment with our goals and responsibilities. The one downside is that we cannot move those of you who already joined the old group directly to the new page, so we ask everyone (old and new) to please "like"/follow the new page.  Please visit us at https://www.facebook.com/RMSPTOFB

Yep, again about the RMS Online Directory. If you've already signed up, "Thank you!" and keep scrolling. If you haven’t opted-in yet, please take a moment to follow this link richmondmspto.membershiptoolkit.com
