RMS Friday Focus December 13, 2019

Frances C. Richmond Middle School

Friday, December 13, 2019

Dear Richmond Middle School Community:

We received some great acknowledgements of past work this week.  Thanks to the PE department for coordinating with schools around the country to set a new Guiness Book of World Records mark in the event of speed stacking.  Students in PE classes joined over 600,000 students around the country and world to set the record for people stacking at one time in multiple locations.

Pets for Vets also sent along a letter of appreciation for the money raised by RMS during the week surrounding Veteran’s Day.  RMS works in many ways to build community.

Break is almost here!  The pace of the days will certainly accelerate as we work to complete all our tasks in the shortening daylight.  At this time of the year please be conscious that while many of us have holiday memories full of cocoa, family time, and cozy contentment, many students experience a great deal of anxiety around the season.  Please be mindful that the change in routines, additional visitors, and “expectations” of December, as well as the impending “new year,” can cause an increase in adolescent ennui. This is a normal reaction, and as adults we can help simply by acknowledging the displacement caused by the season and allowing students space and time to process.

Please enjoy the weekend (the last one with assigned Homework for a little while).

Warmly,

Tim Boyle
