Friday Focus - July 31, 2020

Good Afternoon RMS Family:

Welcome to the first Friday focus of the new year!  I would like to extend a special welcome to the incoming 6th-grade parents from the Ray School (and other towns), the 7th-grade parents from Marion Cross, and any other new parents we have.

Usually, the month of July in education is full of relaxed days contemplating the possibility of new classroom furniture and talking with faculty about exciting staff development offerings.  This year has been quite different!  The SAU 70 reopening task force throughout July to begin planning for the 2020-2021 school year.  The SAU has scheduled a Town Meeting to go over the specifics of the plan.  We would like to invite and welcome you to our remote meeting:

Thursday, August 6th - 6:30 pm

The RMS reopening task force formed this week (after a well-deserved break during July) and will meet in earnest next week to work through the specific logistics of school in the building during these trying times.  We are excited to start the work, and thrilled about the prospect of seeing students again.  We know there will be many questions, and we are planning numerous parent meetings during the month of August to answer any and all questions and concerns.  Please stay tuned for the schedules of those meetings.

Work for Racial Equity

Join UMaine's Library and the Office for Diversity and Inclusion for the Racial Justice Challenge. Each day, for five days, you'll receive an email with several tasks designed to learn, listen, share, and take action regarding race, racism, and antiracism. We'll explore how to be antiracist (versus "not racist"), move beyond a single story, examine issues of race in the media, and design a personalized racial justice plan for the rest of 2020.

Have questions? Contact jenbonnet@maine.edu.

This challenge will take place August 3-7, 2020.
